Unwinding 'The Untethered soul' -01
Okay, brace yourselves because we are embarking on a journey of self awareness. I believe this book is going to help me understand 'Who am I?' . The book by Micheal A. Singer is a book in spiritual genre according to me contrary to Google's categorization of it in 'self-help'. The book as described by Deepak chopra 'takes you step-by-step through the process of Gyana , the yoga of intellect, to the Source.'
If you want to understand yourself , need to 'soul-search' , if you have spent nights wondering what are you other than composition of cells, tissues and organs, or is there a meaning behind this life, or if you are on a self-awareness and consciousness journey, or if you are simply curious or want to read a spiritual book, then I strongly recommend reading this book 'The Untethered Soul'.
Now, I will share my thoughts on the ideas in the chapter as I read along.
I have sometimes felt absence of a reading partner with whom I could discuss plots as it moved along and just ponder over what is going to follow. If you are reading this book and feel like talking, I hope this blog serves the purpose.
The first part is titled 'Awakening Consciousness'.
First chapter talks about the voice inside my head. While I am typing this, the voice inside my head is repeating the words as I type. Similarly if you are not reading it out loud, the voice inside your head is narrating these words to you. So what is this voice? Or who?
First, let us identify this voice. If I notice , this voice inside my head is constantly talking. Have you noticed that when talking to someone, you don't say out loud everything that comes in your mind? When eating the food, 'Ah, the food is hot!',' The cake is so creamy and melting in my mouth. I can never get enough of this'. Most of the times, before I speak and voice it, the voice speaks in my head. When left on its own, the mental dialogue never ends.
So who is talking? Is it me? But I am also the one who is listening.
He explains, 'Suppose you were looking at three objects- a flowerpot, a photograph and a book and were then asked, 'which of these objects is you?' You are not the objects you are looking at. You are the one who sees the objects.' Similarly, since I am the one who is aware of the voice talking and I am the one listening to it. That voice is not me. That does make sense in this way.
So what is the voice inside my head?
I'd say verbal mechanism of my thoughts.
So I know that my thoughts is not who I am.
Okay, I can live that.
But further he says that my thoughts are not significant at all. Much of what the voice says is meaningless. He writes and I quote, ' In fact, your thoughts have far less impact on this world than you would like to think.' And this bothers me. Now I have read the book, ' The Secret' by Rhonda Byrne and do believe in its message. I believe that my thoughts have the power to attract and I can influence what I receive through thoughts. I believed in manifestation. If you are someone who believes in it too then how will you accept this statement in the book. To get the whole learning from the book I must understand and accept everything in it. So I guess I am in a spiritual conundrum. I am uncertain on what to believe. I think I will believe in The Secret's message for now and continue the book keeping Mr. Michael's viewpoint in mind and I hope to get clarity on this situation.
As it proceeds, I accept that if we examine the thoughts and keep it aside , we will experience life better. The thoughts give us a personal presentation of the world and buffers reality. To get a stark, unfiltered experience of what is really out there, we must remember to keep aside the thoughts.
We can keep reminding ourselves that 'I am the one who is hearing the voice and that my thoughts are not me.'
Lets practice it!
